About the Artists

Lisa Shimko (Greenville, SC) Lisa Shimko is a Greenville-based painter working primarily in acrylic on wood, canvas, and paper. A graduate of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a BFA in Painting and a minor in Art Therapy, Shimko draws on childhood memories of the Pennsylvania countryside and two decades of life along the South Carolina coast and foothills. Her paintings range from surrealist, animal-driven narratives to free-form abstracts, often exploring humanity's relationship with the natural world. Vivid color and a sense of playfulness run throughout her body of work, which she describes as part therapy, part communication.

Julia Deckman (Charleston, SC) Julia Deckman is a contemporary painter whose work centers on the expressive potential of color. Based in Charleston and largely self-taught, Deckman was named the 2019 Lowcountry Artist of the Year and has exhibited in solo and group shows throughout the Southeast. Her "Color Choreography" series explores the relationships between color and form through deliberate, dynamic compositions, and her work has been featured in publications including Luxe Interiors + Design and House & Garden UK.

Savannah Strickroth (Charleston, SC) Savannah Strickroth is a Charleston-based ceramic artist and painter who works out of Studio Union, also creating under the name Studio Jane. Strickroth builds her ceramic forms using slab and coil techniques, then illustrates directly onto the surfaces — a process that blends her painting and ceramics practices into a single, distinctive body of work.

Arthur Brouthers (Charlotte, NC) Arthur Brouthers is a multidisciplinary artist based in Charlotte whose work draws on abstract expressionism and optical art to explore emotion, frequency, and pattern in the natural world. He is known for pioneering a fluid, poured-paint technique using acrylics, spray paint, and ink that produces cellular-like separations of color; in his figurative pieces, these abstract layers form the "skin" beneath portraits built up with resin for added depth. Brouthers' work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including shows in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, and at Art Basel Switzerland.
